By Editor More than 5,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano North Senatorial District have defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in a move involving supporters of Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
The defectors were led by grassroots mobiliser Mustapha Yahaya Shuwaki, who announced his defection alongside his supporters from Bagwai and Shanono Local Government Areas.
Shuwaki said the decision followed consultations with supporters, community leaders and political associates across the senatorial district.
According to him, concerns over insecurity, access to potable water, healthcare, education, electricity and road infrastructure were among the issues that influenced the decision to leave the APC.
The development came barely 24 hours after Shuwaki and his supporters were received into the APC by Senator Barau.
Receiving the defectors, Kano North NDC leader Muhammad Garba described the development as part of a political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
