Sokoto ADC Chieftain, Murtala Madugu, Defects to APC

A prominent Sokoto businessman and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Murtala Madugu, has resigned his membership of the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Madugu was formally received into the APC by the party’s leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, at his Asokoro residence in Abuja last week.

Explaining his decision, Madugu said the developmental projects being implemented by the administration of Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu influenced his decision to join the APC.

According to him, the projects and initiatives of the administration have strengthened his belief that the APC provides a viable platform through which he can contribute to the political and socio-economic development of Sokoto State.

Madugu also cited what he described as a lack of focus and internal coordination within the ADC leadership in Sokoto State as another reason for his resignation.

He pledged to work with the APC leadership and contribute to strengthening the party’s grassroots structures across the state.

Receiving the new member, Wamakko welcomed Madugu to the APC and assured him of equal treatment and opportunities within the party.

The former governor said the APC would continue to support programmes and policies aimed at accelerating the development of Sokoto State and improving the welfare of its people.

Wamakko described Madugu’s defection as a welcome development and urged party members to work collectively to promote unity and strengthen the APC across the state.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammad Maigari Dingyadi, Katukan Sokoto, was also present at the reception.
