Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has launched the 2026 Fertilizer Sales and Distribution Programme, unveiling a comprehensive package aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security across the state.
The programme, flagged off on Monday in Malumfashi Local Government Area, will see fertilizer sold to farmers at a subsidized rate of ₦25,000 per bag.
According to the Governor, the initiative underscores his administration’s sustained commitment to supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural sector.

“From the very beginning of this administration, we made a clear commitment that agriculture will remain a top priority,” Radda said, noting that early delivery of inputs ahead of the rainy season has been maintained and further improved this year.
To enhance transparency and accessibility, the Governor announced a decentralized distribution system covering 6,652 polling units statewide. Under the arrangement, Funtua Zone will receive 60 bags per polling unit, Katsina Zone 50 bags, and Daura Zone 45 bags, while large-scale farmers will also benefit directly.
“This approach eliminates middlemen, reduces diversion, and ensures fertilizer gets directly to genuine farmers,” he explained.
Beyond fertilizer distribution, Radda outlined a broader agricultural transformation strategy.
He disclosed that over 3,000 tube wells are being drilled free of charge to support irrigation farming, while 4,000 gasoline-powered irrigation pumps have been distributed this year, in addition to 4,000 solar-powered pumps provided previously.
The administration has also supplied hand-powered tillers, tractors, and modern implements to ease labour and expand cultivation. Improved seedlings are being procured for farmers at subsidized rates, alongside agrochemicals to boost yields.
In a bid to secure the future of agriculture, the Governor revealed that 361 youths are currently undergoing training in modern farming, agro-processing, and agribusiness.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Lawal Aliyu Shargalle, described the initiative as part of a broader agricultural revival strategy, assuring that strict monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to guarantee transparency.
Community Development Programme Coordinator, Dr. Kamaludden Kabir, and Malumfashi Council Chairman, Hon. Muntari Abdullahi, both commended the Governor’s efforts, noting that the interventions are improving livelihoods and revitalizing rural economies across Katsina State.
