Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling water scarcity, declaring that his government will confront the challenge head-on to ensure residents have access to safe and reliable water supply.

The governor made this known during an inspection tour of major water treatment plants across the state, aimed at assessing their current condition and identifying lasting solutions to the persistent shortages affecting several communities.

The visit, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, forms part of ongoing efforts to guarantee adequate and safe drinking water for the people of Kano State.

Governor Yusuf, accompanied by key commissioners and representatives of CGC, a Chinese company with extensive experience in water infrastructure, commenced the tour at the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

During the inspection, the governor examined critical components of the facility, including treatment machines, distribution pipelines, and other operational equipment. The assessment revealed several challenges, such as leaking pipelines, malfunctioning machinery, and obsolete equipment, all of which have hindered efficient water supply.

Addressing journalists after the visit, Governor Yusuf assured residents that his administration would take immediate steps to rehabilitate the affected facilities.

“We are committed to restoring all malfunctioning parts of these water treatment plants and improving their overall operations to ensure effective water supply across the state,” he said.

He further disclosed that the state government would collaborate with CGC to conduct feasibility studies and implement sustainable solutions to the water crisis.

“This partnership is a critical part of our broader strategy to revitalize water infrastructure, improve public health, and ensure sustainable access to clean water for all citizens,” the governor added.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that providing safe and potable water remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that no effort would be spared in addressing the issue and improving the living conditions of Kano residents.

The inspection tour is expected to continue across other treatment plants as the government intensifies efforts to resolve the long-standing water supply challenges.
