Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Friday attended the first State Council meeting of the year in Abuja, clad in his signature Kwankwasiyya attire and prominently displaying the flag of his party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The meeting was attended by all state commissioners and the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, whose loyalty had recently been the subject of speculation amid ongoing political realignments and defection rumours.

Addressing members of the council, Governor Yusuf emphasized the need for unity, resilience and mutual understanding within his administration, stressing that collective harmony remains critical to the progress of the ancient city of Kano.

“I urge all of you to give this government your maximum cooperation by working together as one family, with understanding and respect for one another, so that we can make Kano great,” the governor said.

Yusuf’s appearance at the meeting appeared to put to rest widespread speculation that he was planning to defect from the NNPP, a move some political observers had anticipated would be announced during the council session.

The governor also highlighted key development plans of his administration, particularly in the area of youth empowerment, revealing that the state plans to provide employment opportunities for 50,000 youths by 2026.
