Former Kano State Governor and distinguished statesman, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah as he marked his 70th birthday, using the occasion to reflect deeply on his life’s journey, his years in public service, and the principles that have guided his path.

Speaking at an international press conference held in Kano, Shekarau a two-term governor, former Minister of Education, and respected public figure described his seven decades on earth as a journey of “faith, purpose, and gratitude.” He said every milestone in his life was made possible by divine guidance and the solid foundation laid by his late parents.

“I am forever grateful to Almighty Allah for the gift of life, health, and the opportunity to serve humanity in various capacities,” Shekarau said, visibly emotional. “I also owe an eternal debt of gratitude to my late parents, who trained me with discipline, humility, and fear of God. Whatever I am today, I owe it to the values they instilled in me.”

Reflecting on his public life, Shekarau highlighted the importance of service, honesty, and leadership by example, virtues he said are essential for the progress of any society. He called on leaders across all levels to prioritize the welfare of the people, uphold justice, and govern with sincerity of purpose.

“Leadership is a trust from Allah. It is not about privilege or power, but about responsibility. We must serve with fairness, compassion, and accountability,” he emphasized.

The event was attended by journalists from within and Nigeria, political associates, and scholars who lauded Shekarau’s contributions to education, governance

As he looked ahead to the years to come, Shekarau said his focus remains on mentoring younger generations, promoting education, and advancing interfaith harmony.
