Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has called for increased support for farmers across the country, stressing the need to boost food production and strengthen national food security.

Mrs Tinubu made the call in a message to mark the 2026 World Food Day, observed annually on October 16.

The First Lady urged farmers to embrace innovative agricultural practices while preserving traditional knowledge to improve productivity and build resilient food systems.

“As we observe World Food Day 2026 with the theme, ‘Innovate Today. Nourish Tomorrow’, we are reminded of the need to embrace innovation while preserving the traditional knowledge that strengthens our food systems,” she said.

She also emphasised the importance of supporting farmers, reducing food waste and promoting sustainable agricultural practices to ensure that every family has access to safe and nutritious food.

According to her, sustained commitment to these measures would help Nigeria achieve food security and secure a healthier future for generations to come.

“With sustained commitment, we can build a food-secure nation and create a healthier future for generations to come,” she added.

World Food Day is observed every year on October 16 to raise awareness of global hunger and promote efforts to improve food security and nutrition worldwide.
