Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has charged the 20 newly sworn-in Local Government Area chairmen to shun misappropriation and wasteful spending of public resources.
The governor gave the warning on Wednesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the chairmen at the Banquet Hall of the Bauchi Government House.
Mohammed commended the people of the state for their participation in the just-concluded local government election, saying the exercise was conducted in accordance with constitutional provisions.
He stressed that his administration would not tolerate the diversion or misuse of public funds, urging the new council chairmen to uphold accountability and transparency in the management of resources entrusted to them.
According to the governor, many of the newly elected chairmen are experienced and highly educated, with some holding university degrees and PhDs. He therefore challenged them to put their knowledge and experience to work by delivering tangible development to their respective communities.
Mohammed assured the chairmen of his administration’s support, particularly in the areas of security, agriculture, education, and the empowerment of women and youths through skills acquisition programmes.
The governor also described the local government election as free, fair and credible, saying its outcome had sent a strong political message to opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election across the state’s 20 local government areas.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the newly sworn-in Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, thanked the people of Bauchi for entrusting them with the mandate.
Haruna pledged the commitment of the new council chairmen to supporting the governor’s development agenda and ensuring improved services and infrastructure in both rural and urban communities.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government officials, members of the judiciary, political leaders, traditional and religious rulers, family members of the newly elected chairmen, and other invited guests.
