The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving N37 billion for the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project in the 2026 budget.

Jibrin, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, gave the commendation during plenary while responding to a motion sponsored by Kamorudeen Olalere on the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ikire–Ife–Ilesha road in the South-West.

He noted that the administration’s road infrastructure projects are being executed across all regions of the country, cutting across both ruling and opposition areas.

According to him, this demonstrates a balanced approach to national development.

The lawmaker explained that the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road, which stretches approximately 100 kilometres, is being expanded from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway. He said the upgrade would significantly improve transportation and ease the movement of agricultural produce from rural communities to markets in neighbouring states.

He recalled that the Federal Government had earlier flagged off construction of the project on June 11, 2021, linking Kano State to Dayi town in Katsina State.

Jibrin also expressed satisfaction with progress on other major road projects, particularly the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano highway, which he said is advancing steadily.

He further highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the Lagos–Calabar coastal road, describing them as clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development despite global economic challenges.

“Despite global financial constraints, the President is continuing with major road projects across the country,” Jibrin said, urging political stakeholders to recognise the government’s efforts regardless of party differences.

He added that the National Assembly appreciates the President’s dedication to infrastructure, noting that such investments are vital for economic growth and strengthening national unity.
