Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday fulfilled his pledge to support the families of 16 Kano hunters who were killed by a mob in Uromi, providing financial assistance and food supplies to both bereaved families and survivors.
A government delegation led by the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Abdullahi Waiya, visited Bunkure Local Government Area to deliver the support package.
During the visit, Waiya presented ₦300,000 each and food items to the families of the 16 deceased victims. He also distributed ₦200,000 each alongside food supplies to 13 survivors of the incident.
The commissioner said the visit was directed by Governor Yusuf to personally assess the condition of affected families and to fulfil commitments earlier made to them.
According to him, the governor had previously pledged the support during an earlier condolence visit, but the delivery was delayed due to administrative processes.
“We are here on the directive of the governor to check on the welfare of the families and fulfil the promises made to them.
We appeal for understanding over the delay, as it was not intentional,” Waiya stated.
He added that the governor remains committed to ensuring that compensation earlier announced by the Edo State Government reaches the victims.
Waiya disclosed that bank accounts have already been opened for the affected families and payments will commence once processing is completed.
He further noted that the state government is considering additional interventions, particularly in supporting the education of the victims’ children.
In his remarks, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Umaru, commended Governor Yusuf for the gesture, describing him as a compassionate and responsive leader.
Umaru also offered prayers for divine guidance and success in the governor’s leadership.
