The Kano State Government has announced new security measures and adjustments to traditional festivities ahead of the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing credible intelligence reports of plans to disrupt public peace.

In a statement issued under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the government said security assessments by the State Security Council revealed deliberate attempts by certain individuals to instigate unrest during the Sallah period.

While reaffirming its commitment to preserving Kano’s rich cultural heritage, the government stressed that public safety remains its foremost constitutional responsibility.

Following consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders, the government approved revised arrangements for key traditional events.

The Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will proceed as scheduled under the leadership of His Highness, Sarkin Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

The procession will move from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground through designated routes to Gidan Shettima and end at Kofar Fatalwa within the Kano Emir’s Palace.

However, Hawan Nasarawa will hold in a modified format without horseback processions.

Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi have been suspended until subsequent Sallah celebrations in the interest of public safety.

Security agencies have been directed to intensify surveillance and enforce strict compliance with the new directives to prevent any breach of peace before, during, and after the festivities.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security authorities. The government also cautioned against spreading unverified information and encouraged citizens to carry on their normal activities peacefully.

The statement further commended security agencies for their professionalism and reassured residents of a safe and hitch-free celebration.

The announcement was signed by Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, who extended best wishes to Muslims for a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr.
Happy Sallah in advance.
