The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against vehicle theft with the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the arrest of four suspects linked to the crimes.

Police authorities said the success followed ongoing intelligence-led operations in line with directives from the Nigeria Police Force leadership.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra on March 7, 2026, at the Naibawa Flyover Bridge in Kano.

The vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Abuja, was being driven by two suspects — Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna in Niger State, and Ahmed Sani, 32, from Abuja. Police said both suspects have confessed to stealing the vehicle.

In a separate operation on March 9, the Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters in Kaduna, along the Kwanar Dawaki axis of the Kano–Zaria Expressway. He was found in possession of an ash-coloured Honda Civic, which he allegedly stole from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.

Further investigations also led to the arrest of Yusuf Ali, 28, from Kaduna, in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State.

Police also recovered a white Nissan Sunny believed to have been stolen from a parking lot within Kano metropolis.

Authorities said the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of the process.

The Kano police command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling crime across the state, adding that it will continue to intensify intelligence-driven operations to protect lives and property.

The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station as part of collective efforts to curb crime.
