The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has called on industries in Kano to embrace the environment friendly methods of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) as well as Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) for sustainability.
The call was made by the Vice Chairman MAN, Ali Madugu, while speaking at the opening of the public-private sector policy dialogue session for industrialists and stakeholders under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (GEF-UNIDO).
He also thanked GEF-UNIDO for creating ideas that will bring sustainability in the manufacturing sector of Nigeria.
“The implementation of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and Resource Efficient Cleaner Production (RECP) marks a moment of sustainability that drives growth and drives the system for coming generations.
“As we embrace energy efficiency we also control the emission of CO2 into our environment, thereby becoming environment friendly.
“Let us embrace this new platform to set our businesses forward and create a cleaner Nigeria” he stated.
In his speech, the Director Industries of the Kano Ministry of Investments, Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Mahmud Bala, expressed appreciations for the sustainability techniques that will properly manage energy and improve output.
“It is worth appreciating the sustainability techniques being introduced that will reduce energy and increase better output” he stated while calling on participants to embrace the IEE and RECP.
Speaking on behalf of the Bank of Industry (BOI) in Kano, Abba Bello explained that there is N100m loan to support the energy efficiency policies that will bring sustainability in the industries, with a 10 percent interest rate.
He also explained the processes of accessing the loan by the industries saying this is only for the project and for those who need more funds can also get it but on the terms of the BOI as the funds exceed the limit available.
“There is 3-5 years period of loan repayment in addition to a 6 months moratorium period and also attracts an interest is 10 percent” he stated.
On his side the National Technical Coordinator of the GEF-UNIDO, IEE and RECP, Oluwasegun Osidipe, explained the benefit of embracing the energy efficiency techniques.
He said that products can be accepted or rejected when exported to some countries depending on whether the production went through an energy efficient system.
