Specialised Agro-processing Zone, SAPZ Kano, a project being supervised by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with support from Islamic Development Bank and others, is empowering farmers in Kano to grow farm produce in large quantities to be processed into finished products for exports at an Agro-industrial processing hub AIH,
at Bagauda.

Joshua Daniel, senior consultant with Carter consulting, the firm managing the project, said a rice processing centre in Kura, Tomatoes processing centre in Bagwai,Groundnut processing centre in Dawanau and Sesame processing centre at Kakara are being created to feed the Agro industrial processing hub at Bagauda where farm produce would be processed and packaged for exports.

He said the hub will create incentives for farmers to produce more and the finished products are exported to the established markets all over the world.

” We are creating Jobs where small ,medium and large scale processors would process what farmers produce for exports.Kano is selected as a pilot,Kaduna and Abuja are next. The project aims to empower farmers to grow acres of land and whatever they produce will be brought to the processing hub and the finished products earmarked for export,” said Daniel.

SAPZ Kano, which is currently at the ongoing 46th Kano International trade fair,is solely focusing on Rice processing, Tomato processing,Groundnut and Sesame processing as well as Livestock and Diary production.
