Chinese Embassy Official Visits Kano Police, Seeks Stronger Security Partnership

The Kano State Police Command has pledged to strengthen security cooperation with the Chinese community in the state following a courtesy visit by an official of the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.

Mr. Ni Zhichen of the Consulate Section of the Chinese Embassy visited the Kano State Police Command Headquarters in Bompai on Tuesday, where he met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and other senior officers.

Ni said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the Police Command and the growing Chinese community in Kano, particularly in the areas of security, business, trade and investment.

He noted that the Chinese community in Kano had continued to expand its economic activities, making sustained cooperation with security agencies essential to protecting lives, businesses and investments.

He also expressed appreciation for the cordial relationship between the Chinese community and the Police Command, while commending the security situation in the state.

“We are in Kano because Kano State is very peaceful. That is why we chose to be in Kano State. We also chose to be in Kano because of the prosperity and the security in the State. We are confident that with the support of the Police, our citizens and investments will continue to be safe,” Ni said.

Responding, CP Bakori welcomed the Chinese delegation and assured them that Kano remains a home to the Chinese community and other foreign nationals living and doing business in the state.

The Commissioner described Kano as one of Nigeria’s peaceful and economically active states, citing the hospitality and peaceful disposition of its people.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents, investors and visitors, stressing that the Police would continue to maintain an open-door policy and support legitimate businesses operating in the state.

Police Assures Chinese Community Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Commissioner also spoke on the Command’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, assuring the delegation that security measures were being put in place to maintain peace and public order before, during and after the elections.

According to him, the Police Command is collaborating with other security agencies, traditional institutions and relevant stakeholders to prevent violence and respond to emerging security threats.

During the meeting, both sides discussed areas of mutual interest, including training and capacity building, modern policing technology, crime prevention, intelligence sharing and community engagement.

CP Bakori said technology-driven policing and timely information exchange would be important in tackling economic and transnational crimes and improving security for the Chinese community and other residents.

The Commissioner described the visit as timely and significant to strengthening diplomatic, economic and security cooperation between Nigeria and China.

He urged members of the Chinese community to continue working with the Police by providing timely and actionable information that could assist in crime prevention and prompt response to security incidents.

The Kano State Police Command said it remains committed to maintaining a safe and business-friendly environment for law-abiding residents, investors and visitors while upholding the rule of law.
