Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have rescued the abducted Secretary of Kibiya Local Government Area following a targeted security operation in Rano.
The council official was kidnapped days earlier at his residence in Kibiya by armed assailants who reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for his release.
Security sources disclosed that the kidnappers allegedly tracked the victim using insider information supplied by a local resident, raising fresh concerns about community-level collaboration with criminal elements.
Intelligence findings further indicated that the suspects were believed to have originated from Rijana, an area previously associated with criminal operations along the Kaduna–Abuja axis.
Acting on credible intelligence, DSS operatives traced the kidnappers’ hideout to Rano and launched a coordinated early-morning raid on Tuesday. A gunfight ensued as security forces engaged the suspects.
The operation led to the successful rescue of the victim alive. Two suspects were arrested during the exchange, while two others escaped and remain at large. Security agencies say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.
The rescued official is reported to be in stable condition and is currently receiving medical attention ahead of his reunion with family members.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating insecurity across the state.
Authorities pledged to intensify coordinated security operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks and curbing banditry.
