The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a Sallah visit to former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kano State.
Obi was accompanied by Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, as part of activities marking the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking during the visit, Obi said he came to felicitate with Kwankwaso and honour him during the festive period.
“I’m here to felicitate with you on the occasion of the Sallah and to pay my respects to our leader,” he said.
Obi also used the opportunity to assure residents of Kano of renewed efforts to revive the state’s economic base, particularly its once-thriving industrial sector. He noted that plans were underway to restore productivity in major industrial hubs such as the Bompai Industrial Layout and the Sharada Industrial Layout, alongside efforts to revive notable institutions including the defunct Bank of the North.
“We want to change Kano. We want to build a new Kano. What we want to do is to make sure that we bring back the powers of Kano and restore its industries,” Obi added.
He stressed that the visit was not politically motivated but purely to celebrate Sallah with the people.
“Today is not about politics, it is about celebrating Sallah. May Almighty Allah bless all of you,” he said.
The event drew a massive crowd of Kwankwaso’s loyalists, who turned out in large numbers to welcome the leaders. Governor Makinde departed earlier, while Obi left later in the evening.
