Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the installation of toll gates on seven major highways leading into the Kano metropolis as part of a broader strategy to enhance security surveillance and strengthen the state’s socio-economic structure.
The development was announced in a statement issued by Adamu Abdullahi, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Housing Development, and made available to journalists in Kano.
According to the statement, the toll gates are designed to improve monitoring of vehicular movement into the city and reinforce security architecture at key entry points.
The proposed locations include Daura Road, Katsina Road, Gwarzo Road, Zaria Road, Maiduguri Road, Hadejia Road, and Sa’adatu Rimi Road all major routes serving as gateways into the bustling metropolis.
Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, has formally handed over the seven project sites to contractors, signaling the commencement of construction work.
The commissioner explained that the decision to mount toll gates on all major access roads into Kano was taken “with a view to boosting the security and socio-economic apparatus of Kano State.”
He noted that the toll gates would function as strategic control points to regulate and document vehicular inflow, reflecting the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through structured monitoring and improved infrastructure.
Adamu further urged contractors to strictly adhere to project specifications and ensure timely completion within the stipulated timeframe to enable the government to achieve its security and development objectives.
The handover ceremony was attended by Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Marwan Ahmed, and Commissioner for Public Procurement, Dr. Nura Ma’aji, alongside other senior government officials.
The event concluded with the signing of official handover documents by representatives of the Ministry of Housing Development, contractors, and the project consultant, marking the formal commencement of the initiative.
