No fewer than 4,444 Qur’an memorizers converged on the Kano Government House for a statewide prayer session aimed at seeking divine intervention against the growing threat of bandit attacks in the state.

The large-scale spiritual gathering, attended by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, top government officials, religious leaders, and the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, united the commercial city in a collective stand against insecurity.

During the special session, participants prayed in unison for an end to armed banditry, a security challenge previously uncommon in Kano.

Governor Yusuf, who hosted the event, emphasized that insecurity “does not know politics or party lines,” urging citizens to put aside political differences and work together to protect the state. He highlighted ongoing government measures, including enhanced logistical support for security agencies and continuous engagement with operatives to respond swiftly to emerging threats.

Reassuring residents, the governor noted that coordinated security structures were already in place, adding that spiritual efforts such as prayers remain a crucial complement to tactical operations. He described the gathering as a necessary “spiritual investment” for all well-meaning citizens.

In his remarks, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II commended the state government for initiating the prayer intervention, calling it a timely response to the current challenges. He shared observations from his recent visit to Faruruwa in Shanono Local Government Area, where new access roads are under construction.

The Emir noted that such infrastructure would greatly enhance movement in rural areas and improve security response times. He urged the governor to sustain development projects that strengthen local government connectivity and reinforce the state’s security framework.

Sanusi II assured that the Emirate Council remains fully committed to working with the state government to restore Kano’s longstanding reputation as a center of peace, commerce, and cultural harmony.
