The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Friday officially began its 2025 Press Week with a special prayer session held at the Union’s Secretariat.
The session, led by respected Islamic cleric Malam Gwani Nasir, drew a large gathering of union members, including the Council Chairman, Comrade Suleiman Dederi, and the Vice Chairman, Mustapha Gambo.
In his remarks after the prayer, Comrade Dederi said the Press Week was being ushered in with gratitude to Almighty Allah for His guidance and protection over journalists in Kano State and across the country. He noted that journalists continue to play vital roles despite the challenges they face, demonstrating resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to public service.
He urged media practitioners to remain dedicated to the ethics of the profession by promoting accurate, fair, and responsible journalism. He also encouraged continuous prayers for the progress of the union and the advancement of the media industry in Nigeria.
Highlighting activities lined up for the 2025 Press Week, the Chairman announced that the Council will embark on a courtesy visit to the psychiatric hospital, host a novelty football match between NUJ members and the Kano State House of Assembly team, hold a capacity-building workshop, commission the Kano Online office, and round off the week with an award night recognizing outstanding media professionals.
Comrade Dederi called on journalists, stakeholders, and the general public to actively participate in the weeklong celebration as the Council strives to promote excellence, professionalism, and unity within the media community.
