Kano Wins Best Performing State at 2025 National Agricultural Show

Kano State has once again claimed top honours at the 2025 National Agricultural Show, emerging as the Best Performing State at the annual national event held from November 24 to 29 at the National Agric Show Ground in Karu, Nasarawa State.This contained in a press statement signed by Director Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Agriculture, Abba Dalha Soron Dinki.

Organised by the National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the show brings together agricultural MDAs from all 36 states, local and international partners, farmers, agribusiness leaders, and industry experts to showcase end-of-season produce, exchange new ideas, and introduce innovations in crop varieties and technology aimed at strengthening food security and economic growth.

Kano, a long-time holder of the Best Performing State trophy, participated at full strength, featuring all agriculture-related MDAs under the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Receiving the award on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Special Adviser on Agricultural Crop Production and Extension Services, Prof. Abba Garba Gaya, attributed the achievement to the Governor’s unwavering commitment to revitalising the sector. He noted that the administration has revived various agricultural training institutes previously abandoned, thereby providing new opportunities for youth and women in agribusiness.

Prof. Gaya further disclosed that the state government has committed billions of naira to construct dams and irrigation facilities across several communities. He highlighted other key initiatives, including the recruitment of 1,038 agricultural extension workers, the expansion of large-scale irrigation programmes, and the subsidised provision of fertiliser and other critical inputs to farmers.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, represented by the Director of Administration and General Services, Alhaji Garba Yunusa, expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for consistently ensuring Kano’s full participation in national agricultural events. He noted that the show serves as a vital platform for farmers to acquire new skills and exchange ideas that enrich the nation’s agricultural landscape.

Beyond winning Best Performing State, Kano also secured top positions in several categories. Takai Local Government Area emerged as the Best Performing LGA, with Gabasawa taking second place, while the Ministry of Livestock Development clinched the top prize in the livestock exhibition category.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Agricultural Foundation of Nigeria, Arc. Kabiru Ibrahim, described Kano’s participation as the “light of the National Agricultural Show,” noting that the state consistently attends with all key stakeholders and adheres strictly to the principles guiding the event. He commended the Kano State Government for its steadfast support and cooperation.
