With the 2027 presidential race drawing closer, Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Alhaji Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is desperately seeking a political lifeline—and that lifeline, he insists, is Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Thursday, Dungurawa said the APC has become “weak, confused and directionless,” and is now scouting for a stronger figure to salvage its fading influence ahead of 2027.
“The only better option they see is Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso,” he stated.

He argued that the APC is fully aware that it risks political irrelevance in 2027 unless it taps into Kwankwaso’s widespread popularity. According to him, despite speculation, Kwankwaso has made no move to return to the APC—rather, it is the APC courting him in hopes of boosting its electoral chances.

Dungurawa accused the ruling party of failing Nigerians over the past decade, citing worsening poverty, hardship and insecurity. He maintained that Kwankwaso is the leader capable of reversing the country’s misfortunes if elected president in 2027.

He urged Nigerians especially Kano residents to register and obtain their voter cards, stressing that a Kwankwaso presidency “will transform their lives for the better.”

Commenting on Kano’s newly presented 2026 budget, the chairman praised the N1.368 trillion proposal by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing it as a continuation of the transformative 2025 “Budget of Hope.” He said the 2026 budget tagged “Budget of Infrastructure, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development” will accelerate progress in education, health, agriculture, road construction, water supply, and empowerment programs for youth and women.
