Troops of the Joint Task Force Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled a bandit attack in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, neutralizing 19 criminals and restoring calm to the affected communities.
According to a statement issued by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops acted on credible intelligence about the movement of bandits around Unguwar Tudu, Unguwar Tsamiya, and Gwauron Dutse areas at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.
The soldiers, supported by other security agencies, swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The encounter led to the neutralization of 19 bandits and the recovery of several motorcycles and two mobile phones.
Unfortunately, two soldiers and a local vigilante lost their lives during the exchange of fire.
Zubairu explained that the bandits, who stormed the area on motorcycles, were forced to flee after suffering heavy casualties. He added that further clearance operations are ongoing to secure nearby communities and prevent future incursions, especially in areas prone to cattle rustling.
The Commander of the 3 Brigade, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Kano and its environs. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
The Nigerian Army also commended the cooperation of citizens and pledged continued collaboration with sister security services to maintain lasting peace and security in the state.
