The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the full activation of comprehensive security measures across the state as part of renewed efforts to curb violent crimes and enhance public safety.
The initiative, led by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, follows a directive from the Inspector-General of Police aimed at strengthening security architecture nationwide.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command has intensified intelligence-led policing operations, increased patrol activities, and strategically deployed personnel across all Local Government Areas of the state.
As part of the enhanced measures, high-risk locations such as farmlands, forests, waterways, and major entry and exit routes are now under constant surveillance through coordinated day and night patrols. The Command has also introduced intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations at key points to intercept criminal elements and prevent security breaches.
Tactical units and patrol teams have been repositioned to boost visibility and ensure rapid response to emergencies, reinforcing the Command’s readiness to tackle any security threats.
In addition, the Police Command has strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to ensure effective intelligence sharing and coordinated joint operations.
The Command also disclosed that community engagement and public sensitisation campaigns are ongoing to encourage residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. Traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and other stakeholders have been urged to support the efforts by providing timely and credible information.
Residents are advised to report any suspicious activities through the designated emergency lines: 08039213071, 08028916010, 08020913810, 09040000065, and 09169839215. The Command assured that all reports will be handled with urgency and strict confidentiality.
