The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahya, has commended the leadership of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel for fostering unity, love, and professional growth among journalists through impactful engagements.
He gave the commendation during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr celebration, thanksgiving, and special prayers held at the Kano Press Centre on Sunday. The event was organised to appreciate God for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast and the Eid festivities.

Represented by Abbas Ibrahim, the NUJ President urged journalists to reflect on the spiritual lessons of the season by promoting peace, unity, and tolerance in their professional duties. He expressed satisfaction with the activities of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel over the past year under the leadership of Murtala Adewale, describing their initiatives as exemplary.
Yahya further called on other NUJ chapels across the country to emulate the Kano model by organising similar events that strengthen camaraderie and foster cooperation within the journalism community. He also stressed the need for journalists to play active roles in addressing national challenges, including insecurity and food scarcity.

In his remarks, a Professor of Communication at Bayero University Kano, Yakubu Mai Nasara Kurfi, described the event as inspiring and commendable. He urged the chapel leadership to sustain the initiative and pledged to replicate such engagements within the university’s Faculty of Communication.
Kurfi also advocated stronger collaboration between the NUJ and academic institutions to enhance the training and retraining of journalists and students in the profession.
Similarly, the Kano State NUJ Chairman, Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, represented by Mustapha Gambo, said the gathering symbolised unity and togetherness within the union, while commending the organisers for bringing together media professionals and stakeholders.

Earlier, Chairman of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel, Murtala Adewale, described the event as an opportunity for reflection on the values of Ramadan, including sacrifice, discipline, empathy, and integrity. He urged journalists to uphold these virtues in their daily work and remain committed to truth, fairness, and societal development.
The event featured a special thanksgiving feast and prayers for peace and progress, marking the end of the 30-day Ramadan fast and reinforcing bonds among journalists in Kano.
