The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has dismissed allegations by the Kwankwasiyya faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) accusing the state government of influencing court proceedings, describing the claims as false and defamatory.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Auwalu Soja Gwale, the APC said the accusation—reportedly made by NNPP factional spokesperson Ibrahim Karaye—was baseless, lacked credible evidence, and was aimed at undermining the integrity of the judiciary.
The party firmly denied claims that the Kano State Government paid large sums of money to influence proceedings at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. It demanded an immediate retraction of the allegation.
According to the statement, the APC issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Karaye and the NNPP to withdraw the claims, issue a public apology, and refrain from making similar statements. The party warned that failure to comply would lead to legal action on grounds of defamation.
Describing the allegation as “false, malicious and legally indefensible,” the APC maintained that the Kano State Government has never interfered with judicial processes.
The statement further alleged that such accusations reflect a pattern of “reckless rhetoric” by some NNPP elements whenever political outcomes do not favour them.
The APC also urged the Kwankwasiyya faction to concentrate on resolving its internal leadership disputes, referencing ongoing litigations involving factions linked to Boniface Aniebonam and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, rather than making what it described as frivolous claims.
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the APC called on the public to disregard the allegation, insisting it is entirely unfounded.
