The Nigeria Police Force, Zone One Headquarters, Kano, on Thursday hosted law students of Equity Chambers, Faculty of Law, Bayero University Kano (BUK), on a courtesy and study visit designed to acquaint them with the operational structure and functions of the Police.
The visit was aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and practical law enforcement, giving the students first-hand exposure to how policing duties are carried out at the zonal level.
During the engagement, senior officers from key departments of the Zone One Headquarters delivered detailed briefings on their mandates and operations. The Zonal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) briefing was presented by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ibrahim Usman Hamman, while CSP Zakari Imam briefed the students on the functions of the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA).
Further insights were provided by CSP Bashir Muhammed of the Department of Operations (DOPS) and Inspector Chris Odang of the Zonal Intelligence Department (ZID), who explained their departments’ roles, operational procedures and the critical importance of inter-departmental collaboration in effective policing.
Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, the Principal Partner of Equity Chambers, Faculty of Law, BUK, Malam Ismail Ibrahim Awachi, expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Police Force for granting the students access to the headquarters and its officers. He described the visit as highly enlightening, noting that it had significantly expanded the students’ understanding of policing, criminal investigation, intelligence gathering and police administration in Nigeria.
Awachi added that the experience would complement the students’ academic training and better equip them for future legal practice.
In his remarks, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone One Headquarters, Kano, AIG Garba Ahmed, welcomed the students and commended the Faculty of Law, BUK, for initiating the visit. He reaffirmed the Police’s commitment to fostering strong partnerships with academic institutions, emphasizing that such engagements are essential for promoting community policing, mutual understanding and a more informed legal and security sector.
The visit concluded with a shared commitment by both the Nigeria Police Force and Bayero University Kano to sustain institutional collaboration in the interest of effective justice delivery and national security.
