The Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, for his outstanding efforts in curbing thuggery and other criminal activities across the state, as well as the swift arrest of suspects involved in the killing of a housewife and her six children.
Governor Yusuf gave the commendation on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Kano State Police Command Headquarters at Bompai, Kano. He described the recent achievements of the Command as reassuring and a clear indication of effective leadership and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.

The governor revealed that upon hearing about the tragic incident, he immediately contacted CP Bakori and urged him to ensure the arrest of the suspects within 12 hours. “To my greatest surprise, the suspects were arrested within six hours,” Governor Yusuf said. “You even went further to link me directly with the suspects as well as the husband and father of the victims. This level of responsiveness is commendable.”
Governor Yusuf further disclosed that he had briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the prompt and gallant efforts of the Kano State Police Command in apprehending the suspects. According to him, the President expressed happiness over the development and urged the police to sustain the momentum.
Expressing personal satisfaction with the visit, the governor noted that it was his first official visit to the Command Headquarters since assuming office after the 2023 elections.
He said the visit, which included the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, commissioners, and special advisers, was aimed at strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding between the Kano State Government and the Police Command.
Governor Yusuf identified insecurity particularly thuggery, banditry, and kidnapping as one of the major challenges he met upon assuming office in 2023.
He, however, expressed delight that these issues have been significantly reduced. He disclosed that incidents of thuggery in Kano State have dropped by about 70 percent under the leadership of CP Bakori.
“As the most populous state in Nigeria, Kano must remain peaceful,” the governor said.
“Political differences should never divide us when it comes to security. I am here to give you moral support and to let the people of Kano know how much you are doing, despite limited personnel and resources.”
He assured the Commissioner of Police of the state government’s continued and increased support, adding that tangible improvements in logistics and collaboration would soon be evident.
In his response, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori expressed deep appreciation to the governor for the visit, describing it as a historic and morale-boosting gesture. He attributed the Command’s successes to the unwavering support, encouragement, and cooperation received from the state government and the people of Kano.
“Your Excellency, your visit today is a testament to your love for the Nigeria Police Force,” CP Bakori said.
“Since I assumed duty, your fatherly advice and support have made our achievements possible.
Community policing in Kano is exceptional, as the people consistently provide us with useful information. This visit will further strengthen our resolve to serve.”
The Commissioner concluded by praying for the governor’s continued success and thanked him for the unprecedented show of solidarity with the Kano State Police Command.
