Tinubu Approves ₦47bn to Complete Abandoned Wuju-Wuju/ Jakara Road, Sewage Project in Kano

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the sum of ₦47 billion for the completion of the long-abandoned 6.7-kilometre Wuju-Wuju/Jakara township road and sewage infrastructure project in Kano metropolis.

The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, disclosed this during an elaborate ceremony held in Kano, describing the intervention as a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to urban renewal, infrastructure development and economic growth in the state.

According to Ata, the project cutting across four metropolitan local government areas will have a far-reaching economic impact on Kano residents.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu loves Kano State, and we must appreciate this. This is another giant project given to Kano by the Tinubu administration,” Ata said.
“Because the road cuts across four metropolitan local governments, its economic impact will be very huge.”

He explained that the presidential approval of funds would guarantee the timely completion of the project, which had remained stalled for several years.

Ata noted that the Federal Government took over the project through the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development following a formal request by the Kano State Government.

“This intervention is part of Mr President’s resolve to support states in delivering critical infrastructure that directly affects the lives of the people,” the minister stated.

He further explained that the road and sewage project passes through Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala and Fagge Local Government Areas, adding that its completion would significantly ease movement, improve sanitation and boost commercial activities within the state capital.

“When completed, this road will positively impact the economic lives of residents across these local governments,” Ata added.

The minister disclosed that while the Kano State Government has completed about 850 metres of the road, the Federal Government will execute the remaining 6.7 kilometres to ensure full completion.

He also revealed that the state government is responsible for compensating owners of affected properties, noting that compensation covering about two kilometres has already been paid.

Assuring quality delivery, Ata said the Controller of Housing at the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development would supervise the project.

“I will personally continue to inspect this project until it is completed and delivered in sound quality,” he assured.

Ata commended the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for initiating the project in 2013 and appropriating ₦5 billion for its take-off, describing the current federal intervention as a continuation of that vision to transform Kano’s urban infrastructure.
