Former Military Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has called on Nigerians to intensify their cooperation with security agencies by providing timely information that could help track criminals involved in kidnapping and related offences.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Saturday, the elder statesman stressed that collaboration between citizens and security operatives remains crucial to restoring peace and stability across the country.

Abubakar urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security formation, noting that such vigilance can significantly improve response time and prevent attacks.

His appeal comes amid rising insecurity, marked by frequent abductions and assaults on schools and rural communities in various parts of Nigeria.

Describing the insecurity situation as a “war front” that touches all sectors of society, Abubakar emphasised the need for collective responsibility in confronting the menace. He called for strengthened synergy among security agencies, government authorities and citizens.

“We must all work together to end abductions in our schools and on our highways, and to restore peace, progress and political stability,” he said.

The former head of state also urged religious leaders of both major faiths to intensify prayers for divine intervention in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political challenges.
