The International Press Institute (IPI) Nigeria has announced that its 2025 Annual Conference and General Meeting (AGM) will take place from December 2 to 3, 2025, at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja, with the theme: “Countering Media Repression and Safeguarding Democratic Accountability in Nigeria.”
In a statement jointly signed by Musikilu Mojeed, President of IPI Nigeria, and Tobi Soniyi, the Institute’s Legal Adviser, the organisation revealed that this year’s conference will bring together over 100 leading media executives, journalists, senior government officials, media freedom advocates, and academics from across the country.
A major highlight of the two-day event will be the official launch of the IPI Nigeria Book of Infamy a special publication chronicling cases of media repression and press freedom violations in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the conference will also include the induction of new members into IPI Nigeria, further expanding the organisation’s network and reinforcing its commitment to defending press freedom, promoting ethical journalism, and advancing democratic values.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mr. Mojeed described the conference as “a vital platform for assessing the state of media freedom and journalists’ safety in Nigeria, discussing policy and legal reforms to strengthen independent journalism, and fostering dialogue between the media and government on transparency and accountability.”
He added that the event will also provide “an opportunity to share best practices and global perspectives on protecting press freedom.”
The second day of the event will feature IPI Nigeria’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) an exclusive session for members of the Institute. The AGM, according to Mr. Mojeed, offers a forum to deliberate on executive reports, review progress, and develop new strategies and partnerships to advance press freedom and journalists’ safety nationwide.
The IPI Nigeria Annual Conference, first held in 2024, has quickly established itself as one of the country’s most important gatherings dedicated to promoting press freedom, democratic accountability, and professional excellence in journalism.
