The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled plans to generate ₦9 trillion in revenue for 2026, banking on sweeping trade facilitation reforms and advanced technology to curb cargo diversion and block revenue leakages.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed the ambitious target, emphasizing that the final approved figure would be made public after consultations with the National Assembly.
“We are projecting ₦9 trillion in revenue for 2026,” Adeniyi said. “However, the final figure will be announced after due consultations and approval by the National Assembly.”
He noted that the Service’s confidence is buoyed by its recent performance, having exceeded its revenue target last year by 11 percent. According to him, more than ₦100 billion was realized from traders who voluntarily regularised previously underpaid import duties.
“Our performance last year demonstrates that the reforms we have introduced are yielding results,” he stated. “Over ₦100 billion was recovered from traders who came forward to correct underpayments, reflecting growing voluntary compliance.”
Adeniyi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining the upward trajectory, stressing that streamlined trade procedures and enhanced compliance by importers and exporters would remain central to achieving the 2026 goal.
“We will continue to deploy technology and strengthen trade facilitation measures to ensure transparency, block leakages, and make compliance easier for legitimate traders,” he added. “Our objective is not only to meet but to surpass our revenue targets while supporting economic growth.”
