The One Kano Agenda has applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s proposed ₦1.368 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill, describing it as a groundbreaking and people-centered financial plan poised to reshape Kano State’s development trajectory.

Speaking during a press conference in Kano on Monday, the Director General of the group, Ambassador Abbas Yakasai, hailed the budget as “a defining turning point for development, security, and responsible governance in the state.”

Yakasai noted that the scale and vision of the fiscal proposal reflect the governor’s determination to rebuild the state and restore public trust.

“This budget is not just an appropriation; it is a roadmap to recovery,” he said. “It speaks to a leadership that understands where Kano has been and where it must go.”

He highlighted the unprecedented allocation of 68% to capital expenditure—an approach he described as a clear departure from routine governance toward transformational leadership. Key sectors such as education, infrastructure, and health top the priority list, receiving ₦405.3 billion, ₦346.2 billion, and ₦212.2 billion respectively.

“These are not just figures,” Yakasai stressed. “They represent better schools, stronger hospitals, improved road networks, and expanded access to clean water for our people.”

The civil society organisation commended the governor’s foresight and commitment to accountability, noting that the 2026 budget aligns with the state’s socioeconomic realities and demonstrates responsible stewardship.

Amid rising insecurity in parts of the country, One Kano Agenda also welcomed Governor Yusuf’s firm stance that “criminals and bandits have no refuge in Kano.”

According to the group, this unwavering position reassures citizens of the government’s dedication to safety and stability.

It further pointed to ongoing investments in surveillance systems, patrol logistics, and community-based intelligence as evidence of a proactive and collaborative security strategy. The organisation urged all stakeholders to support the administration’s efforts, emphasizing that lasting peace is the foundation upon which sustainable development must thrive.
