Kano State Executive Council Approves ₦19.02 Billion for Key Development Projects Across Sectors

The Kano State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the release of ₦19.02 billion for the execution of critical projects aimed at boosting economic growth and improving the welfare of residents.

The approval was announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, during a press briefing held after the 33rd State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Kano.

According to Waiya, the council deliberated on several vital issues relating to governance, economic advancement, and public welfare. It consequently approved a total of ₦19,019,114,578.50 to be expended across six major sectors—education, health, water supply, works and infrastructure, energy, and government offices.

In the education sector, ₦4.9 billion was earmarked to settle outstanding debts for feeding in boarding schools, renovate public schools, and provide essential teaching and learning materials in tertiary institutions.

For healthcare, the council approved ₦274 million for the renovation of Tiga General Hospital and the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital located within the Kano Emir’s Palace.

The water sector received ₦3.3 billion to improve potable water supply in selected communities and cover the cost of electricity and fuel for water treatment plants.

The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure got the largest allocation of ₦9.8 billion for the construction of new roads, rehabilitation of existing ones, street lighting, welding, and flood control works across the Kano metropolis.

In the energy sector, ₦979 million was approved for the installation of solar power systems in government facilities, including Africa House and the Department of Government Affairs.

The council also endorsed the construction of 50 affordable housing units in each local government area outside Kano metropolis and the purchase of shares in KEDCO to strengthen the state’s electricity supply.

Additionally, the council approved the Kano State Electricity Policy, aimed at establishing a sustainable and organized framework for energy development in the state.

During the session, the council commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his visionary leadership, noting the recognition he has received locally and internationally. The governor was recently honored with eight awards, including the Golden Executive Award from the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Zamka Award 2025, and the Independent Newspaper’s Education Ambassador of the Year Award.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continuous pursuit of initiatives that promote the overall well-being of the people of Kano State.
